The
male choir of Klapa Motovun was founded on 28th
of August 2003. The group was initiated by people
who
were
totally besotted with singing klapa.
From the very start,
Klapa Motovun was under
the artistic direction of Aida Vidan.
Klapa Motovun is promotes both classical and modern klapa songs from
the Dalmatian
and Primorje regions of Croatia together with gospel music.
In Klapa Motovun's
musical plans the development
of traditional
Istrian
klapa
Although Klapa Motovun is a young group without a great deal of singing experience,
however they have managed to achieve their aims through enthusiasm and love
for
klapa songs and they have therefore enriched the lively, Istrian klapa scene.
For this achievement special credit goes to Aida Vidan who's individual
tuition of each
member together with her hard work has speeded up the development
of the singers and
the quality of Klapa Motovun as a whole. In recognition of
the group's contribution to the
cultural life of Motovun, the Town Council awarded
Klapa Motovun a Certificate of Merit
on 8th of August 2004.
Klapa Motovun regularly participates in all major Istrian klapa events such
as: The Festival
of Istrian Klapa, Buzet, The Klapa Gathering in Trviž, The
Klapa Gathering in Marušići and numerous
other individual appearances such as welcoming
the Croatian President in
August 2004.
Klapa Motovun is particularly proud of their first solo concert which was held
in the church of St. Stephan, Motovun, on the 11 th September 2000, to celebrate
the group's first birthday.
Besides a hardworking and serious approach to their work, Klapa Motovun's main
characteristic is that of exceptional harmony and fellowship between its members
– a fact
of which many other klapa groups can be jealous.
